Amazon's Great Indian Festival doesn't, yet, so if your item is time-sensitive, plan around Flipkart's date and treat Amazon's as a possible second shot a bit later. Beyond dates, which one actually has the better price depends on the product, not the event name, here's how to actually decide instead of guessing.

Dates: one is locked, one isn't

Flipkart confirmed October 9 as the public start, with Flipkart Plus members getting in on October 8. That's official, announced directly by Flipkart on September 9.

Amazon hasn't confirmed anything for Great Indian Festival 2026 yet. Estimates from deal-tracking sites range from late September to early-to-mid October, some say as early as September 23, others say the sale overlaps directly with Flipkart's window. Until Amazon posts its own sale page, none of those dates are reliable enough to plan a specific purchase around.

What this means practically: if you need something before a specific date (a gift, an event), Flipkart's is the one you can actually schedule around right now.

Bank offers

Flipkart has confirmed ICICI Bank and Axis Bank as its 2026 banking partners. Amazon hasn't published its 2026 offers, but SBI has been its consistent partner in past years and is the safest bet if you're deciding which card to keep handy. If you don't hold an ICICI, Axis or SBI card already, applying for one specifically for the sale rarely works out in time, approval takes longer than most sale windows last.

Which one tends to be better for what

Neither platform is reliably cheaper across the board, it swings by category and even by specific listing. Based on how the last few years have gone:

• Smartphones: Both platforms compete hardest here, and it's genuinely worth checking both before buying, the same phone can be meaningfully cheaper on one over the other in a given year.
• Large appliances and TVs: Both lean on bank-offer stacking to hit their biggest advertised numbers. Check the actual price history on either before trusting the crossed-out MRP.
• Fashion, footwear, beauty: This tends to favor whichever platform's own sellers are running the sale, check both, but don't expect a consistent winner.
• Exclusive launches: Some brands run phone or gadget launches exclusively on one platform for a given cycle, if you're after a specific device, check which platform is actually carrying it before assuming either sale applies.

The actual strategy worth using

1. Wishlist what you want on both platforms now, before either sale starts. Both tend to show early sale pricing to wishlisted items, which is the easiest way to catch a genuine drop instead of an inflated "before" price.
2. Don't commit to the first one that opens. Flipkart opens first this year. If your item isn't urgent, it's reasonable to wait and see what Amazon does, especially since Amazon's date isn't locked yet and could land close behind.
