Best Time to Buy Electronics Online in India: A Category-by-Category Guide

CashJosh Editorial·Aug 27, 2026 6 min read

Laptops peak around back-to-school, TVs around Diwali, phones around the big autumn sales — the real seasonal pattern behind India's biggest electronics discounts.

Not every electronics category discounts at the same time of year. Timing a purchase to the right window can be worth a meaningfully bigger discount than buying the same product a month earlier or later — here's the real pattern by category.

Laptops — July to September (back-to-school window)

Laptops see a genuine seasonal discount window tied to the academic year, roughly July through September. Retailers run dedicated back-to-school promotions in this window — Croma, for instance, has run an annual "Back to Campus" campaign stacking bank-card instant discounts on top of regular pricing. The Diwali season (October–November) is a secondary good window, and clearance sales tend to appear just before a manufacturer refreshes a laptop line with new-generation chips.

Practical tip: if you don't need the absolute latest processor generation, buying the outgoing model right after a refresh announcement (rather than the brand-new model at launch) often gets you the steepest markdown of the year.

TVs — Diwali/Dussehra (October)

TVs have the clearest seasonal pattern of any electronics category: Diwali and the surrounding Dussehra period is consistently the year's best window, with reported discounts reaching well beyond what's available the rest of the year. A secondary window opens after March/April, when manufacturers launch new-generation panels and the prior year's models get marked down to clear inventory.

Practical tip: if a specific size/panel technology matters more to you than having the newest model, the post-launch clearance window (March–May) can rival Diwali pricing on last year's flagship models.

Smartphones — September to November

The smartphone discount window is the widest of any category, spanning Big Billion Days/Great Indian Festival (late September) through Diwali (October) into the year-end sales (November–December). This is when flagship phones typically see their single deepest price cuts of the year — new flagship launches earlier in the year mean the previous generation is being cleared out precisely during this window, on top of the festival-season discounts themselves.

Practical tip: a phone that launched 6–12 months before Big Billion Days is usually where you'll find the best combination of "still current" and "steeply discounted" — brand-new launches rarely discount much in their first festival season.

Putting it together

| If you're buying... | Best window |

|---|---|

| A laptop | July–September (back-to-school), or right after a chip-generation refresh |

| A TV | Diwali/Dussehra (October), or March–May clearance on last year's model |

| A smartphone | September–November, favouring a phone that's 6–12 months old |

None of this changes how CashJosh cashback works — the percentage is the same whether you buy during a sale or not, so a deep seasonal discount plus your usual cashback rate is strictly better than buying full-price off-season.
