Best Time to Buy Online in India: Month-by-Month Sale Calendar

A month-by-month guide to India's online sale calendar: Republic Day, Holi, EORS, the festive season, Pink Friday and year-end, and the real strategy for each window, not just which month.

Online shopping in India follows a fairly predictable pattern of sale windows through the year, electronics and appliances cluster around January, March, and the festive season in October; fashion has its own separate calendar built around End of Reason Sale and Pink Friday; and a handful of platform-specific events (Prime Day, Big Billion Days) don't map to any obvious season at all. Knowing the pattern is more useful than memorizing exact dates, platforms shift their own dates by a week or two most years, this guide covers the pattern and links out to the specific, confirmed dates where CashJosh already has them.

January: Republic Day sales

The first big electronics push of the year, TVs, laptops and appliances typically see the deepest cuts of the January-March stretch, partly because it's also when older-generation stock is being cleared ahead of new launches later in the year.

February: Valentine's and early fashion

Smaller than the electronics-focused sales, mostly fashion, beauty and gifting categories. Worth checking if you're buying beauty or accessories specifically, not a big-ticket electronics window.

March: Holi season

A second electronics and home-appliance window, similar pattern to January, often timed around financial year-end (March 31) when brands and retailers are also motivated to hit annual sales targets, which occasionally means genuinely better margins passed on than the January round.

May-June: Summer sales and EORS

Two separate things happen here: general "summer sale" events across platforms (electronics, ACs and coolers specifically, ahead of the hottest months), and Myntra's End of Reason Sale (EORS), fashion's biggest event of the first half of the year, flat 50-80% off across thousands of brands. See the Myntra cashback guide for how CashJosh's rate works category by category during and outside EORS.

July: Prime Day

Amazon-specific, not tied to an Indian festival or season, it's Amazon's own mid-year event. Electronics and Amazon-brand devices tend to see the standout deals here rather than fashion or beauty.

September-October: the festive season, the biggest window of the year

This is where Flipkart's Big Billion Days and Amazon's Great Indian Festival both land, along with independent sales from AJIO, Myntra, Nykaa and most other major retailers, all roughly the same few weeks. It's also the one window we've done the most specific homework on this year, actual confirmed dates, bank offers and category-by-category expectations:

If you're planning one big purchase this year and can wait for a single best window, this is usually it.

November: Black Friday and Pink Friday

Global Black Friday timing has increasingly spread to Indian platforms too, and Nykaa specifically runs its Pink Friday Sale in this window, its deepest beauty discounts of the year, especially on premium and luxury brands. See the Nykaa cashback guide for the rate breakdown.

December: year-end and clearance

The last major window, partly genuine year-end clearance, partly gifting-season demand for electronics and fashion. Discounts here tend to be real but narrower in scope than the festive season, specific categories rather than sitewide.

The actual strategy, regardless of which month

  • Wishlist early. Most platforms show early sale pricing to wishlisted items before the public sale opens, the simplest way to catch a genuine drop instead of a relisted one.
  • Track price history, not the sale-day price. A "70% off" listing is meaningless if the MRP was quietly raised the week before. A price-tracking extension or just checking a product's price a month earlier tells you more than the crossed-out number does.
  • Compare across platforms in the same window, not just within one. The same product is often listed on Flipkart, Amazon and a brand's own site during the same festive stretch, at genuinely different prices.
  • Cashback stacks regardless of the sale. Whatever the discount, whichever month, CashJosh's tracked cashback applies on top of the price you actually pay, it's independent of the coupon or sale you used to get there.
